In a world that is changing so fast, we are happy to offer kids a set of furniture that can accompany their growth and adapt to their lifetime needs. A space of their own, where they can dream and imagine everything they can become.
All of our products are carefully thought of to support and encourage children´s development and autonomy. Our mission is to create a happy growth environment, by designing quality, comfortable and safe objects for children of all ages.
Families living with kids share space and use it in different ways. Though it’s really important to spend time together as a family, there are times when children need their own space to develop and explore their interests, activities and opinions. In their private space, children can choose what is important to them, how they will express themselves, how they will manage their things and how they want to spend their time.
With UPA Chair and Desk you are promoting your child’s autonomy and helping him to build his self-confidence while you are creating an exciting place to learn and grow outside of school. A space where resources are easily accessible, that can work for homework, art projects, crafting and quiet reading.
We follow the European Standard (EN 1729) which defines appropriate furniture parameters, related to children’s body dimensions, for educational institutions.
When a child sitting on a chair is unable to rest his feet flat on the floor, the blood supply to the lower legs and feet is restricted causing discomfort and numbness and, in the longer term, there is an increased risk of more serious complications. On the other hand, if the seat is too low for taller users, there is an increased risk of slouching, discomfort and loss of concentration in the short term and back pain and more serious musculo skeletal disorders in the long term.
In the same way, there is a rationale for seat depth, width and inclination and for backrest and lumbar support zone, that should be respected in order to prevent children from adopting an unhealthy posture. For desks its fundamental to guarantee surface depth and width is large enough to take all the papers, books, supplies and equipment’s needed.
With UPA Chair and Desk you guarantee that the distance between the seat and the work surface allows your child to rest his arms comfortably on the desk top and at the same time that he has sufficient space for its legs. At the same time UPA Chair, by being adjustable in height and depth, guarantees that your child rests his feet flat on the floor and has the adequate backrest and lumbar support.

From the European furniture standards (EN 1729) it is apparent that an item with fixed dimensions, like a chair or a table, for sitting an earlier toddler has a useful lifetime of one/two years with such product cycle being valid up to the age of 10 years old. Up to the age of 14 the lifetime of chairs or tables is slightly extended up to two/three years. If the levels of comfort covered in the norm are pursued by relying on fixed sized items it would imply, throughout the development of a child, the purchase of 5 to 7 different chairs or tables, leading to increased levels of waste and space consumption at home.
By having one chair and one desk that can be adapted to your child’s age you generate less waste and you save space at home.
